Gonandagan
Hi! Welcome to the first blog post of this project! The working title as of now is Show Me Haudenosaunee. I felt this was fitting because it shows the Native American nation as who they are, not who we decided they should be called. Many call Haudenosaunee, Iroquois, but I want people to see Native Americans as they want to be seen. I came up with this idea for my Capstone Project after I had been shocked many a time at our (American) ignorance to the Native American people. I am currently taking an Indigenous peoples class and felt it was high time we see them for who they are. What better way to do that then to take you through a tour of the Gonandagan National Historic Site!
Project Awareness
Our goal is to bring awareness to the Native American people and the historic site of Gonandagan. Gonandagan holds the rich history of Haudenasaunee and shows what is precious to them. We, at the beginning of this project, weren't aware of the Native Americans history and not even really what had happened in the past. In fact, I personally wasn't even aware of the site of Gonandagan until my professor asked us to join her at the historic site. If I was that clueless, I can't help but wonder how many others are clueless to Gonandagan and the culture and history of Haudenasaunee and other Native American peoples.
Show Me Haudenosaunee.
This is our film, our website and our goal and we are about to show you Haudenosaunee.
